TTI's work belongs to everyone who builds it: its board, Leadership, staff, advisors and faculty, alongside the practitioners, researchers and host communities testing the draft standards.

How TTI Is Governed
Legal status
A Washington nonprofit corporation, founded in 2009 as The Travelers Conservation Trust.
Tax status
Recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) public charity. EIN 26-4490451.
Board
A volunteer Board of Directors governs TTI under its Bylaws. Directors with a conflict of interest step out of decisions that involve them.
Purpose
TTI's legal purpose is the Statement of Purpose in its Bylaws.
Where your giving goes
TTI's programs, like the Symposium, courses and certification, are built to pay its running costs, so giving can fund the charitable work. TTI plans for programs to carry those costs by 2031. Until then, unrestricted giving also helps bridge the gap.
Unrestricted
Where it's needed most
The Founding Circle and general giving. TTI puts it where the founding year needs it most: the standards, research, training priced so income is no barrier, and the Stewardship Fund. The Board decides the split each year.
Restricted
One purpose you choose
Giving marked for one purpose stays with it: the Research Fund, the Nature Experience Impact Initiative through 1% for the Planet, or Pay It Forward seats at the Symposium for people who could not otherwise attend.
